Classic Club, Palm Desert, California, Usa

Driving Northbound on Cook St, surrounded by golf courses, resorts and villas, I started rethinking to the two amazing golf courses I played the day before.
SilverRock was unexpectedly fantastic, La Quinta Mountain confirmed my expectations.
And after SilverRock, another Arnold Palmer designed golf course was expecting me.

Crossing Classic Club's gates, the Mediterranean-style impressive clubhouse relieved in front of my eyes. 63,000 sq feet of luxury and splendour where nothing is left to chance. It is lovely the waterfall which flows under the patio and into the lake just behind the 7th hole green and the putting green.

Surrounded by pines trees, and pepperwood trees and a total of more then 5,000 plantings, 30 acres of lakes and streams, with desert and mountains on the background, elevation changes with breathtaking vistas, Classic Club is a unique course in the Coachella Valley and, to me, one of the greatest and special golf courses in Southern California.
Opened in 2005,  and managed by Troon golf, this Arnold Palmer creature was the host site of the Pga Tour event Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in 2006, 2007 and 2008. A really challenging layout, more then 7,300 yds long, which features one of the highest course/slope ratings in SoCal: 75.8/144 from the black tees.
Fairways are usually generous and undulated, and large bunkers are strategically placed to defend the fast and tricky greens. Several holes are bordered by enormous lakes and water come into play on thirteen holes!!!  Pretty amazing for a desert golf course.

Play here and you won't believe your are surrounded by acres of desert sand.
A gem with a collection of memorable holes where Mr. Palmer paid attention to every detail.

On less then 10 years since its opening, Classic Club has been nationally recognized with several awards, among them:

  • ranked #27 on the 2013 Golfweek's Best Golf Courses You Can Play in California
  • Top 10 Best Desert Courses” by Desert Golf
  • Best Places to Play by Golf Travel Annual
  • Resort Course of Distinction by GolfWeek's Best Courses 2009
  • Best Golf Course Playing Conditions in Southern CA by greenskeeper.org.
  • rated 4.5 stars out of 5 on Golf Digest Best Places to Play

If you are planning a golf trip in the Palm Springs area pick Classic Club among the golf courses you want to play. An experience every golfer should not miss.
