MountainGate Country Club, Los Angeles, California, USA

I had the chance to play MountainGate CC as a member guest on a beautiful typical californian midsummer day.
This private Country Club is really a special place. I was impressed by the warm welcome I received as a guest and by the nice and relaxed atmosphere of the club and of its members.
Located on the Santa Monica Mountains, overlooking I-405, MountainGate is just minutes away from the Getty Museum, the Bel Air residential community and from Beverly Hills. A strategical location for a Country Club in LA.
Designed by architect Ted Robinson (Robinson Ranch) in 1975, it features three distinct nine-hole courses which can be played in three different 18-holes combinations.
The North, the South and the Lake Course, three picturesque layouts, a mix of links style and parkland style layouts, have been designed following the natural contour of the hilly area with several elevation changes, undulating fairways and breathtaking views from the highest tees (on clear conditions downtown LA and Catalina Island can be seen from the South course).
I played the North and the South course, a combination of 18 challenging holes with a total length of 6719 yds from the back tees (73,2/134).
I loved the North Course, a selection of 9 interesting holes, not long but extremely fun where strategy and course management play a crucial role.
The South Course plays on a plateau at the base of the mountains. It is more open and less forgiving then the North, more challenging, and 300 yds longer. It features some remarkable holes such as the 400yds  Par 4 2nd, a severe dogleg right (almost U shaped layout) with a ravine to carry to reach the well protected green on your second shot, or the 562 yds par 5 9th, another severe 90 degrees dogleg right hole with the side of the hill running along the right side of the fairway and the fairway itself sloping away on the left side.

An amazing golf course and a prestigious Country Club home to many local tournaments and charity events.
I really enjoyed my experience at MountainGate CC, looking forward to play the Lake Course soon!!
